New Year, New Content

Hello there, it's been a while...

Welcome to 2017!

Exactly one year ago today, I boarded a flight to Dublin, Ireland, for what I would look back on as four and a half of the best months of my entire life. In that short amount of time, I walked thousands of steps, learned new words and slang from a handful of different languages and stood in places where historical figures once stood.

I learned about new cultures and political systems, tried new cuisine from a dozen different countries, and became an expert in finding the cheapest flights on the internet.

I learned how to take care of myself when I was sick and far from the familiarity of home, how to relate to and have conversations with people from all over the world and how to safely navigate Scandinavia for a week-long solo trip. I even learned how to enjoy beer.

Most importantly, I made friends and memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

I originally created Michaela Meets World as an Instagram account where I could post photos from my travels without bombarding my personal account with an excess of posts that would surely annoy everyone I know. Later, when I built michaelameetsworld.com, my goal was to combine my photographs with written content that would (hopefully) inspire and inform my fellow travelers.

Well, I fell a bit behind.

As of January 4, I am officially in my last semester of college. Busy? Yes. Terrifying? Of course. But this website and my passion for photography and travel are things that are extremely important to me, and I have made it one of my New Years resolutions (the most important one, if you ask me) to make Michaela Meets World a top priority. I have a master plan for all kinds of fun and exciting new content, with a main goal of posting much more frequently than I have in the past.

Here's some new content you can expect this year:

Travel Tuesdays!

This will be my main focus in terms of content for my blog. Travel Tuesdays (which will happen every! single! week!) will feature posts about past trips, upcoming trips, local places I have visited and anything else related to the world of travel that I feel inspired to write about.

More frequent Instagram posts

My Instagram feed becomes very sad and lonely when I am not actively traveling, but I live in Florida, for goodness' sake! I'm sure there will still be plenty of international travel #tbt coming your way, but there are plenty of beautiful things all around me, and they deserve a place on my Instagram just as much as the Eiffel Tower and the Cliffs of Moher. I also have a few trips coming up in the next few months, which will surely make an appearance on the 'gram.

Website maintenance

I have already updated my website to include a "portfolio" page, which is a compilation of my journalistic work from the past couple of years. There's still some more fresh content to come, including updated photo albums and portrait sessions!

A new medium

This semester, I am taking a class that is entirely focused on building a portfolio of sketches. I'm no Picasso, but I have always enjoyed drawing and doodling, so I'm challenging myself to develop that skill and practice by sketching some of my photographs and other scenes I encounter by hand. That can't be much more difficult than framing the shot and pressing a button... right?

Bus2alps

I am still a campus ambassador for Bus2alps, a student travel company over in Europe. I'm working on finding new ways to spread the word on campus, and I'll definitely continue to share any promotions and deals they have going on right here on my blog and on Instagram.

As you can see, I have lots of exciting new plans and I can't wait to get started and share all of this new content. Keep an eye out for my first Travel Tuesday coming next week!
