Michaela Meets World Takes on 2018

Hello there.

It's been a while...

Since I posted last, I've been taking on the real world. Well, I've certainly been trying. Here's a quick breakdown of what I have spent the last 12 months doing:

  1. I graduated college. Hooray for education!

  2. I went on an incredible trip to visit friends in Chicago and New York City.

  3. I decided I wanted to move to New York City to find a job.

  4. Instead, I did the sensible thing and moved home and started a new job working with my best friend while still planning and dreaming of moving to the Big Apple.

  5. Out of nowhere, I found my dream job in Vietnam and applied on a whim.

  6. I realized that New York was never what I actually wanted.

  7. I was offered and later accepted the job in Vietnam!

  8. I accepted another job working in Nicaragua for a month!

  9. I realized that my website needed a serious facelift if I was going to get it out there and share my work with the world.

So now we're here.

Almost exactly one year since my graduation, I am so happy to be where I am. There were some twists and turns and lots of uncertainty along the way, but what's life without a little bit of adventure?

In less than two weeks, I will be jetting off to Nicaragua through WorkAway, a website that connects travelers to hosts around the world with specific needs ranging from gardening and child care to website design and photography. I will be working with a woman named Marjourie, who owns a tour company and would like to start promoting her tours on a larger scale. I will spend a month traveling around with her, taking photos and videos of her tours and designing a website that will help her promote her business and put it on the map.

In June I'm going to Austin, Texas, for a wedding and I can't wait to spend to the weekend exploring and watching two amazing people tie the knot!

Then in August I will be going to Hanoi, Vietnam, where I will work for the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies for three months. This awesome organization facilitates volunteer projects, so my job will be to photograph and blog about these projects, post on social media and do various other communications work. Not a bad gig, if you ask me!

Starting in May, there will be tons of new content rolling out from my adventures in Nicaragua, but in the meantime I'll be sharing some of my adventures from the past year!

There's plenty of content around here too, so please feel free to explore! I've added new photos from The Bahamas, Chicago, New York City and Florida. There's even a dedicated page just for Florida Sunsets! Interested in portraits? There's a page for that! Want to see what else I've been working on this year? Check out my portfolio!

And as always, please comment below or send me a message here if you have any questions or tips for traveling in Central America and Southeast Asia. And be sure to follow me on Instagram and like my Facebook page to follow along with my travels.

I can't wait to see what the rest of this year has in store for me but I'm even more excited to share it with all of you! Here's to taking this passion project of mine and turning it into a career!
